CEC is one such thing, having smart apps an OS built into the TV is another.Explanation: NEW SOFTWARE= New tool since your last visit NEW VERSION= New version since your last visit NEW REVIEW= New review since your last visit NEW VERSION= New version Latest version The point is, the smart stuff and things geared toward the average consumer, plus enthusiasts, and even hobbyists, can really rub me the wrong way because it can cause unnecessary headaches. I have had professional training in television broadcast, however no current experience in over 10 years. I'm not a gamer, even though I occasionally like games. Very simple, nothing in the TV to get in the way, and things just generally worked. I much preferred the days of the CRT TV and external devices. That's why I do my setups the way I do, and without CEC, or built in smarts in the TV, things would be quite a bit easier. Wanting things simple all the time, isn't always good. Makes it so much easier and eliminates problems. I think it's much more practical to have a monitor / display, with, or without built in speakers and external devices. However, CEC can be a mess, and having the built in OS and apps just asks for problems when things get old and the company drops support. Understand, it's not the fact I'm against the intent, and the purpose. CEC is one such thing, having smart apps an OS built into the TV is another. The extractor will always pass video, but the audio part goes to sleep when in active, so it just does passthrough unless re-activated.Ĭlick to expand.I'm not a gamer, even though I occasionally like games. Plus it gives me a couple of other outputs to grab the audio with, if wanted. I just need to remember to re-activate the audio extractor when playing a movie with lossless audio. I did some searching after I asked the question, and it looks like I have a good solution already in place. Likewise, I've had that happen in movies, or TV shows with surround, it sounds like it's here and i go to see what it is, and it was in the movie, or TV show. For example, thinking someone is at my door, when it's a neighbor making some kind of activity noise, that sounds close to get my attention, or someone else gets a delivery, and it sounds like it's for me. There are too many people close to me and even if they are not willfully causing problems and just living their lives as I am, it can be a sensory overload. I'll also say because of my hearing, that's why I'd rather live in a house than an apartment. Some add a nice depth, while others really don't sound much different from a standard 5.1 mix. I need the lossless codecs for those to work, and again, it depends on the content. Some items I can't tell a difference, others it's a scale.Īlso, keep in mind my particular sound bar also supports ATMOS, and DTS:X. I will give you this though, it depends on the mix. Click to expand. No, not taken the wrong way, however, I think unless you have some kind of vision issue such as blind, or partially sighted that gives you extra sensitive hearing above the average person, then you're just assuming based on your own experience that I can't tell the difference either.
